In collaboration with San Sebastian Tourist Office and Behobia-San Sebastian, the Project 50/50/25 aims to have 50% of women among the participants in 2025.

International Women's Day, March 8 is here. From the organization of the Zurich San Sebastian Marathon we want to take the opportunity to show our full support to women and to announce that, in collaboration with San Sebastian Tourist Office and Behobia-San Sebastian, we are joining the project 50/50/25 with a view to increasing women’s participation in our races so that 50% of runners in our three distances are women by the year 2025.

Fortunately, every year there are more women who decide to put their shoes and bib on for any of the 3 available distances -10K, half marathon and marathon- in our race, which will be held on Sunday, November 24th. We are proud of this because, although we are aware that there is still a lot of work to be done, from the organization we have worked really hard to equalize the presence of women in all areas of the race. For instance, we have had some women as time pacers for several years. As far as promotion is concerned, we always make sure that all the visual elements of the race are also equal.

In addition to all this, we are also proud that Zurich San Sebastian Marathon is held in a town which is in the lead in terms of elite athletes per inhabitant, ahead of Barcelona and Madrid.

In 2010, female participation was only 6% compared to the massive male participation, which was 94%. However , in the last years we are witnessing an encouraging increase in female participation that already reached 26% last year, compared to 74% male; these figures bring us closer to the goal we have set ourselves for 2025.
