Great quality tips thanks to 'Marathons for Health' held in San Sebastian
The fourth edition of 'Marathons for Health', which took place on February 8th at the Aquarium in San Sebastian, was supported by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the town’s Council. Representatives of the most important marathons in Spain attended the event: Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, Valencia, Ibiza, Bilbao and San Sebastian.
The event was opened by Goizane Alvarez (Director of Sports of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa) followed by Patxi Larrea, director of Zurich San Sebastian Marathon, who went over the agreements reached in previous editions of 'Marathons for Health'. He also expressed great interest and some concern for sustainability and parity in participation at all the events.
Alberto García Bataller, Professor of training and planning methodology at INEF, made it clear that women have different conditions from men when it comes to running long-distance races.
The second presentation was offered by Xabier Leibar, a medical doctor specializing in physical activity and sports medicine. It was dedicated to the action plan necessary in order to minimize the negative effects of running a marathon and how to speed up the post-marathon recovery.
The event was closed by Gaspar Lebel (CTO) and Dr. Scheer, from 'DOKEVER', who gave a talk about medical assistance at the event itself based on their previous experience in important events such as Paris Marathon.
The organizers of the different marathons took good note of all the presentations in order to implement action plans so that the athletes take part in the events in healthiest possible way.
After the interesting outcome of this edition, it was agreed to hold a new one next year in Madrid.
